I embarked on my Information Technology career around 1999, where I began navigating the ever-evolving landscape of technology. My journey spans the transition from traditional server rooms and datacenters to more complex virtualization and cloud architectures, giving me a ground-up perspective on modern infrastructure. While my focus has shifted toward strategy and leadership, I remain deeply connected to the technical foundations of systems engineering and architecture, enterprise networking and storage, virtualization, and cloud technologies. I’m a lifelong learner, committed to leading by example, mentoring my team, and delivering technology solutions that drive real-world value.
As for this site and as the name implies, it’s my alternate brain. Having the opportunity to touch a lot of different technologies along the way, I’ve found myself keeping notes on things and referring to them often. Over time, I plan to collect them from the various places I’ve been stashing them, and will take a stab at cleaning them up and presenting them here at altbrain.net along with some additional context and color when warranted.
What I aim to accomplish:
- A Shared Knowledge Base: A library of technical notes, configurations, and hard-learned lessons, for the community and my peers.
- My Single Source of Truth: One central, organized repository to replace my scattered files and repetitive searches.
- Having Fun: If it’s not enjoyable, what’s the point? I genuinely like writing about what I’m thinking about, and this site serves as a creative outlet for that.
Whether you’re a colleague looking for something specific or a fellow systems engineer or admin wandering in from a search engine, I hope the content saves you some time, spares you some grief, or you find it mildly entertaining. Maybe, you’ll find something useful and interesting too. I also have a few stories to tell and other interests, so perhaps I’ll sprinkle in some non-tech stuff as well.
Thanks for visiting!
